He was ordained as the first minister for the Ephrata congregation on July 20, 1918, and ordained as bishop on Jan. 4, 1934, as assistant to Noah Landis, for the Hammer Creek district. His early years were devoted to evangelistic meetings, CPS visiting, and the Peace Problems Committee. At the time of his death he was moderator of the Lancaster Conference and secretary of the Foreign Missions Council. He took an interest in missions and visited the foreign field several times. Funeral services were held Jan. 4 (the 29th anniversary of his ordination as bishop), at the Ephrata Church, in charge of J.
