Palm Sunday

A Palm Frond
Take Up Your Cross
Like those of so long ago, we stand along the road to Jerusalem waiting for the appearance of Jesus. With cries of "Hosanna", the masses wanted to crown him King of Israel. Because he chose not to take that path, he faced a kangaroo court and ultimately died a cruel death at the hands of a two-bit procurator. However, the ultimate victory was his. He chose the way of peace, drank the bitter cup, and became Lord of our lives.

The path that he chose for us is also difficult, for he said, "Take up your cross and follow me!". The cost of discipleship is high, but he has fitted us with a yoke that makes it easier for us to carry that cross. He said, "My yoke is easy and my burden is light." When we take up that cross, we show the world a better way to bring to fruition the realm of God. The way of peace is the better way. The way of the sword leads only to death.

Like those of old, we look to the future on Palm Sunday. Because we look through a glass darkly, we do not see all that the future holds. The masses quickly turned on Jesus when he was not the messiah they wanted. May we not make that mistake. If we keep our focus on Jesus, we will find the future that he has planned for us. May the Peace of Christ be with you. Amen.
