The Beginning of Advent

Manger Scene
In a Manger
As we begin another Advent season, we look again to that manger in Bethlehem where the Christ child was laid. He came to us, not in a royal palace, but in a lowly stable with the sounds and smells of life as it was lived by the poor. In the same way he comes to us, where he dwells with men and women whose hearts are not ivory palaces, but more like stables. He has identified with us so that we can identify with Him.

Yet, through his death and resurrection, he has turned these lowly stables into palaces where the King of Kings can reign supreme in our lives. We await his coming again into our hearts this Advent, even as he has come to us throughout the ages. May we be ready to receive the Christ child anew and to allow him full reign in our lives. "And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father's only son, full of grace and truth." Amen
