Dedication to Joshua - The Road Not Taken

On July 18, 2003 my grandson Joshua reached the age of 13. Each year we celebrate his birthday as a family should. He is a fine young man with a warm personality and a love for his fellow human beings.

Joshua is an excellent student and a quick learner. He enjoys chess, auto racing, sports, and computing. I am quite proud of him.

His grandmother and I love him very much, not because of these achievements, but simply because he is our grandson. Thus far he has made some good decisions in life. It is our prayer that he will continue to make good choices.

Joshua, there is a wonderful poem written by Robert Frost entitled, "The Road Not Taken." I am posting that poem on this page. Study it and take to heart the theme of this poem. The best choices are not always the easy ones, nor the popular ones. Sometimes it is best to take the road less traveled. I dedicate this poem to you on the occasion of your 13th birthday. Happy Birthday, Joshua.

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that, the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet, knowing how way leads onto way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
