We were all troubled by the events of September 11, 2001. A friend of mine sent me this poem in which he expresses his search for meaning and understanding in all these terrible events. He gave me permission to share it with you.
Let All the Drums be Silent
Drums Of War
Drums of war beat loud and constant today.
Revenge, anger, hate, attack, bombs, troops, death to the enemy, My children, do not take revenge for it is mine to revenge and repay,
Kill them all and let God sort them out. Let the troops loose. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good,
But so many innocent lives ripped apart at one time, it's horrible, barbaric, insane. Today they shall be with me in paradise,
I'm scared, I tremble, I'm terrified. What's going to happen? Be still! I am your refuge and strength in troubled times,
The drums beat louder, the masses cry out for justice. The flags wave on.
The leaders seize the moment calling it war.
Amidst the clamor a wise voice is heard from the pulpit calling for restraint. Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called the sons of God,
Louder they beat both day and night. The tempo quickens. War is near. The Lord is in his holy temple. Let all the drums be silent.
