| It Didn't Even Do This |
Monday morning I got up and went in the bathroom to take a shower, and no water flowed from the hot water spigot. I took a cold shower. After spending the morning repairing the faucet, I figured my troubles were over for the week. But, NO!! There was much more to come.
On Tuesday morning we went to our weekly coffee hour here at Ramblers Rest Resort. I had just gotten on my bike and started to ride home when someone yelled at me. I turned around and Mary had fallen off her bike. My dad would have been happy to know that she did not hurt the driveway. When we kids would fall, he always said, "The child will heal, how is the floor." However, she was a little bruised up and she scraped her knee. So we spent the next hour dressing her wounds. She didn't have any serious injury and is alright now. Thank goodness for that.
Wednesday and Thursday went pretty well. We had a good choir rehearsal on Wednesday night and on Thursday evening I gave a talk at church on the history of hymns. That was well received. I thought to myself, I think things have turned around. But, NO!! There was more to come.
On Friday evening, our phone line was periodically going off and on, and I had a great deal of trouble getting on the internet. I thought to myself, if that is the worst that ever happens, I guess I'm pretty lucky. By Saturday morning it worked fine. We had a breakfast of grits (in the South that's pronounced "Gree-ots.") and scrambled eggs. After I finished the dishes, I took my coffee and paper out on the porch to relax. And then I heard it!!!
"Jay, the car won't start." I had been having periodic trouble with this for over a month, but the last two weeks were uneventful. I figured it would start after a few tries. It always did. Not this time!!!! I went through the usual routine of cleaning the battery terminals, etc. Nothing! Finally, after what seemed like hours of trying and almost swearing at times, I got it started. So I drove straight to the Toyota dealer. He diagnosed it as worn starter contacts. After waiting for three hours, I finally left the shop at 3:00 PM. The car has worked fine ever since. Boy, what a week!
In the weeks that followed, I had what they call second shoe syndrome. That's when one shoe has dropped, and you wait for the next one to drop. What was that? Did anyone else hear something bump upstairs?
