Joshua's Song
Joshua's Song
I spent some time with my 10-year-old grandson, Joshua, this past week. He went to art camp at his school in the morning and spent the afternoon at our house. One afternoon we were fooling around listening to MIDI files on the computer. I showed him some of the hymns I had written. He is getting very interested in music and wondered how I write a song.

So we decided to write a song together. What follows is a poem we began with. Then we wrote the music which you hear in the background. Please don't critique this too hard. It represents about an hour or two of work. He contributed many of the ideas, and I helped put them into poetic form. Then we wrote the tune together and I entered it into my Encore program and we played it back until we were satisfied with it. I hope you enjoy Joshua's Song entitled:

We Go to School

We get on the bus and go to school,
And there we follow all the rules.
The teacher's waiting at the door.
The janitor just swept the floor.

We go to music just to sing,
Just listen to our voices ring.
From there to art class we do go,
Draw pictures of the falling snow.

When lunch time comes we have food fights.
The principal can't sleep at night.
Just when we think we have it made,
The school bell rings, we need first-aid.

At last the clock says three-thirty.
Out the window the bus we see.
It takes me home to Mom and Dad
To see me they are very glad..
