Catching up on the Old Professor

A pile of boxes
A Small Portion of the Move
Since breaking my leg on June 20, I have progressed from a Robert Jones Dressing to a strap-on boot. I have also progressed from a wheel chair to a walker to a cane, now putting full weight on my leg. Medication-wise I have thrown away my pain killers and my coumadin. The swelling is now almost gone, meaning I can soon give up my support hose. One more things remains, namely replacing that boot with a regular shoe and sock. I already walk on my foot barefooted at night, using a walker of course. I don't think I have done badly for a 75-year-old man to have an 8-week recovery. It's probably those good Weaver genes.

As many of you know, Mary and I are moving to a retirement home, Brethren Village in Neffsville, Lancaster Co., PA on September 19. That date is now firm. I have hired a mover, but Mary and I are doing the packing of boxes. We gave some stuff to our children, are taking some to the auction, and threw a lot of junk out. Thank goodness we downsized 14 years ago when we moved into the condo. I know that the furniture we are taking will fit nicely in the apartment. I have measured everything. What I am concerned about are the boxes of stuff. I am sure that we are taking much more than can be kept in that apartment. There will probably be many trips to the Thrift Shop to get rid of the excess junk.

Our daughter has agreed to buy our condo. This past week she listed her house and got an offer the first week. It looks like things are moving in the right direction. I hope we can have everything settled by the end of September.

Near the end of last year I decided to retire from the church choir. Late this summer, I have had second thoughts and I decided to return to the choir for at least one more season. I still love to sing, and my voice is still fairly clear. I do have some problems with breath control, requiring me to skip some notes and get a breath. I might also join the men's chorus at Brethren village. We'll see.

I do plan to continue with this web site and try to maintain my weekly writings with some reruns on occasion when I have writer's block. I have also returned to the writing of my life story. Perhaps I can finish that within a few years. Of course, that's an ongoing story. I hope it continues that way.

Well, back to the packing. Mary just brought me some more stuff. Will it never end?
