A Hymn for Worship

I wrote this in 1993. It began as an introit for a worship service. I then added verses which could be used for a call to prayer, an offering response, and a benediction response. It was used for this purpose for the first time in a worship service at the Lancaster Church of the Brethren, Lancaster, PA on November 3, 1999. The hymn was well received by the congregation and the pastor.

It can also be used as a stand-alone hymn within a worship service. If you would like to try this hymn in your church for a worship service, you have my permission to copy it and use it. Please include the copyright notice with all the copies. I would also like to know if you used it, and I would like a sampling of the reactions to it. May God use my feeble efforts in the furtherance of his Kingdom.

A Church
Swing Wide the Doors

Swing Wide the Doors

Swing wide the doors here in this place.
Our hearts are warmed and touched with grace.
Open our minds that we may hear
Your word proclaimed , your will made clear.
Lord, hear our prayer! Christ, hear our plea!
We seek your truth. Lord, set our spirits free.

Lord as we come to You in prayer,
Strong arms enfold us in your care.
Let healing waters o'er us flow;
Strengthen our faith, and make us grow.
Lord, hear our prayer! Christ, hear our plea!
We seek your face. Lord, set your children free.

We bring to You our very best.
We will be stewards of the rest.
This is the least that we can give.
You gave your son that we might live.
Lord, hear our prayer! Christ, hear our plea!
We seek your aid. Lord, set our neighbors free.

As we prepare to leave this place;
Our hearts on fire, and filled with grace.
Grant us your peace that we may share
Your love with people everywhere.
Lord, hear our prayer! Christ, hear our plea!
We seek your Kingdom. Set your people free.
