I have always liked the symbolism found in John Bunyan's "Pilgrim's Progress." After a long and treacherous journey, as Christian stands before the cross at Calvary, his burden suddenly drops from his back and rolls down the hill. It rolls into the empty tomb never to be seen again. That is how the resurrection hope comes to each of us as we carry our burdens to Calvary's hill. Truly the resurrection of Christ is also the pivotal event in our personal lives.
I authored the original hymn that follows. I also wrote a hymn tune for it. The idea for the hymn came during a sermon on Easter morning. I jotted down some notes during the sermon and finished it later. I hope you enjoy it.

| The Dawning of a New Day |
A child is born and with a cry
It seeks the warmth of Mother's breast.
It grows and learns to say goodby;
Too soon its life is laid to rest.
But life goes on.
God's Son is born, in manger laid.
The inn is full, there is no room.
Too soon the ransom must be paid;
His body laid in borrowed tomb.
Will life go on?
The Son breaks forth in Easter skies.
Our Lord is raised, the battle done;
He conquers death, our Saviour lives!
Eternal Glory has been won.
New life goes on!
