I Follow the Call

I wrote this song to complete an assignment in a course taken at the Lancaster Church of the Brethren, Lancaster, PA on the sociological implications of the bible. I wanted to interpret who I am in a poetic form, based upon biblical theology. Hence, the four verses are a poetic interpretation of my faith journey. Verse 1 speaks of my midlife crisis, when I realized there must be more to life than simply my career. Verse 2 is my expression of penitence for a life lived mainly for myself. Verse 3. expresses the joy of finding of a new path toward fulfillment. Finally, verse 4 proclaims the victory that I found when I discovered not who I am, but whose I am. The chorus expresses the joy in finding that victory.

Picture of Bird Verse1
The Robin sings; I follow its call.
I gather much food from Spring until Fall.
I build a nest and succor my young.
It seems that the work is just never done.

Chorus:
The song rises up from deep in my soul.
The sweet, flowing waters have rendered me whole.
And though I may stray to countries afar.
I'm a child of God; Hallelujiah.

Verse2
The mourning dove weeps; I follow its call.
The late evening mist has cast a dark pall.
I grieve each loss; my pain takes its toll.
I wait for the morning; Oh, Lord heal my soul.
(Sing Chorus)

Verse3
The wren sings its song; I follow its call.
Its beautiful music with joy I recall.
Since Jesus Christ has entered my days,
My cup overflows, my heart fills with praise.
(Sing Chorus)

Verse4
The eagle cries; I follow its call.
I soar to new heights with no fear at all.
I wait on the Lord, His grace sets me free.
The Lord is my God; I have found victory.
(Sing Chorus)
