1312. Hans Jacob
LANDIS125 was born
in 1667 in Rohrbach, Germany.125,227 He died in 1730 in Lampeter
Twp, Lancaster Co, PA.227
He was possibly the Hans Jacob Landis wh was living in Immelshauf, Germany in
1709. with his wife Anna Witmer, their son Jacob (age 14), Hans (age 13), Benjamin
(age 12), Barbara (age 4) and Anna (age 2).He and his family immigrated to Lancaster
Co, PA in 1717. Jacob bought 150 acres of land with Ulrich Howry in Lampeter
Twp, Lancaster Co, PA. Jacob took the southern half of the 150 acre tract and
sold the other half of 75 acres to Andrew Schultz in March, 1722. He was first
taxed at Lampeter Twp. in 1718 as Jacob Landis living next to Felix Landis and
Benjamin Witmer. He was taxed again in 1721 and 1724 in Lampeter Twp. The inventory
of his estate was filed on 2 Feb 1730 at Lancaster, PA and included 100 acres
of land which was patented by his son Benjamin Landis. His widow Anna was listed
by Richard Warren Davis as still living in Lampeter Twp area in 1732. Jacob's
land in Lampeter Twp in 1746 was located next to Benjamin Witmer and near Felix
Landus. In 1747 his land of 100 acres in Lampeter Twp was occupied by Christian
Landis and in a deed to the land ist states it was formerly Jacob Landis' Land.
Christian was probably Jacob's youngest son.
Ira Landis says he is probably Hans Jacob, eldest of 10 children of Hans Heinrich
Landis and born in 4/13/1656. (The birth date given by Ira Landis is probably
incorrect.)
M. G. Weaver says in his history of the Lancaster Conference, on p. 42 that he
"...began to acquire extensive acreage on both sides of what is now known
as 'the Old Road' ...which became the center of the Mellinger church activities."

She died after 1730 in Lancaster Co, PA.125
Ira Landis says that Jacob's first wife was an Engel who died in childbirth,
and that he later remarried. I think he was confused with the grandson Jacob,
son of Benjamin. Children were:
| i. | Jacob LANDIS125 was born about 1694.125 He died after 1728 in Lampeter Twp, Lancaster Co,
PA.125 Jacob was taxed
in Conestoga Twp (in what is now Lampeter Twp from 1718 to 1722 and then disappears
from Lancaster County records. He was probably a married man and owned land in
Lampeter Twp next to Isaac Frederick of Lampeter Twp. In 1739, although he was
not living there, his land in in Lampeter was referred to as Jacob Landis' land
adjacent to Isaac Frederick's land. In 1747 his Lampeter land was occupied by
Christian Landis and in a deed it states that it was formerly Jacob Landis' land
adjacent to Isaac Frederick's land. The Christian Landis that was living on his
land in 1747 was probably his brother. | | ii. | Hans LANDIS125
was born in 1696 in Germany.125
He died on 14 May 1756 in Cocalico Twp, Lanc Co, PA.125 Apparently Hans was married previously to a person
whose name is unknown. In 1727 he was probably the John Landis taxed next to
Henry Landes and Jacob Schnebeli of Lampeter Twp. In 1745 he was a witness to
a deed at Lampeter Twp for Durs Buckwalter who was selling land next to Christian
Landes' land. (formerly the deceased Jacob Landis' land. acording to the deed.
On 24 Jan 1733 he warranted 88 acres on a branch of the Conestoga Creek (Cocalico
Creek), 16 days after his brother Henry Landis warranted 150 acres along the
same creek in Warwick Twp. Henry patented his land, but John abandoned his land
in Warwick Twp and on 27 February 1734 warranted 135 acres on the east side of
the Cocalico Creek in Cocalico Twp (now Ephrata Twp), Lancaster Co, PA. Hans
and Margaretha became members of the German Baptist Brethren Church by 1734.
Hans and his son John were both taxed in Cocalico Twp in 1751. Hans became known
as "Ephrata" John Landis. He wrote his will on 6 May 1756 and it was
