Peter, Paul and Mary - A Love Fest

Stookey after the show
|
On September 29, 2006 Peter, Paul, and Mary gave a concert at the American Music Theater in Lancaster, PA. What a wonderful evening it was. They arrived on-stage with a standing ovation. The trio had been scheduled to appear here in 2005, but due to Mary's having developed leukemia, they had to cancel. But tonight they were here.
They opened the show with some new material mixed with some oldies, including "Puff, the Magic Dragon." They invited the audience to sing along with everything. It was a real audience participation show. The audience loved it.
Mary and I were in the 4th row, stage left. We had an excellent view of everything. In addition to the trio, they had a bass player and another string musician. The sound level was very good, not overwhelming as is the case with so many concerts today. They had all their usual visual moves and body language.
In the second set, they each appeared individually and then they finished the show with "If I had a hammer," "Blowing in the wind," and gave an encore with Woody Guthrie's, "This land is your land." The trio still emphasises peace and justice songs. For those of us who are oriented in that direction, it was a real spiritual experience. We all pray that the Iraq war will end quickly, and that our children can come home from the conflict. Who knows what will happen, but as the song says, "The answer my friend is blowing in the wind; the answer is blowing in the wind."
Peace from the Old Professor.
