| Belting Out a Song |
As I listen to these numbers, my mind goes back to those wonderful days when we grew up together. The theology in these songs is terrible. The subjects are mostly about death and heaven. The music is very primitive as is most folk music. Yet, the tunes are catchy and the harmonies are wonderful.
But it is the memories that draw me to them. I'm sure that all of you are attracted to music that you knew and sang while growing up. The old songs always bring back those feelings of friendship, first love, and the carefree times of our youth. Then there are the hymns we sang in church. They also bring back wonderful memories of the spiritual communion with the church family we knew when we were growing up.
I'm not sure what it is about music that brings back these old memories. I suppose that music reinforces feelings more than anything else. Whatever it is, our lives are surely richer with music. I thank all those who have written and produced the music we have all learned to treasure.
