The Church of the Brethren in Lancaster, PA prepared a devotional Advent booklet in 1997.  I was asked to select the scriptures and prepare the guide.  The guide which follows is essentially that guide with some slight revisions for the Advent calendar in 1998.  We invited members of the congregation to write the meditations based on this guide.  It turned out to be quite a success.

The theme of the booklet is "He Comes to Us".  My objective was to stress His coming as King, Priest, Servant, and Son of God.  I wanted to get away from the usual trappings of Christmas.  I don't mean to imply that they are not valid.  But sometimes it is necessary to step back and look at the larger picture to find the true meaning of Advent.  Please use your own creativity to make this production reflective of your congregation.
