Tonight my heart is broken. An America that I loved so dearly seems to be receding like the flood waters in New Orleans, leaving behind a toxic brew of Neocons, Incompetence, and Cronyism. My president seems to have no grasp of the trouble he has caused this nation. Then again, maybe he does.
A well-organized campaign is underway by the Neocons to Starve the Beast by bankrupting this nation so that programs such as Social Security, Medicare, and even aid to veterans will be destroyed and replaced by a set of privately run programs that will make the elite of this country even more rich. In order to gain momentum, they have enlisted the power-hungry Religious Right in the game. These people see a time when they can set up a Theocracy to govern America.
What the Religious Right fails to see is that they too are being duped. Oh, they may get some plums along the way like outlawing same-sex marriage and abortion. But do not be fooled, they will never get what they are looking for. The Fascists of the Neocon movement will throw them aside like so much dirt once their power is permanently entrenched. Then the American empire will be secure with the Emperor of the United States controlling the flow of all the oil in the world. The flow of money will be from the third world and Europe and the Far East into the pockets of the Multinational Corporations who already are calling most of the shots.
There is one glimmer of hope. As we look at history, empires come and empires go. The Empire of the United States of America will not survive any more than did the British Empire, The Spanish Empire, the Holy Roman Empire, the Roman Empire, the Greek Empire, The Egyptian Empire, and so on ad infinitum and ad nauseum. However, meanwhile, our civilization will probably be destroyed, our planet will be raped beyond recognition, and billions of people will die in the process. What a sad ending to such a marvelous beginning in 1776!
Is the journey down this road inevitable? It is unless we take action, and do it quickly. We must rise up as a people and demand that the Bush Administration resign en masse. We cannot survive another 3-1/2 years of this mess. At the very least, we must wrest the control of Congress from the Republican Party in the 2006 elections. I only hope that the Democratic leadership can get off their collective butts and join the fight to free our nation from these tyrants. The timidity of the opposition party is appalling.
Yes, my heart is broken tonight because I have watched the pain wrought by this administration in Iraq, in New Orleans, among those in this country without proper medical insurance, among the elderly, and most sadly of all, among our children. Their health care, their education, and their environment are being systematically destroyed.
Pardon me for ranting, but I can no longer remain silent. We must speak out or we will lose it all. God Save America! It has lost its soul.
