| A Bountiful Harvest |
When we're young, our dreams of the future are like a garden, planted in hopes of a bountiful harvest. We till the soil, plant the seeds and add fertilizer to the soil. The young plants break through the ground and we carefully water them. As the roots strengthen and the plants begin to grow, we conclude that they can now survive pretty much on their own. We become a bit neglectful.
As time goes by, a number of things begin to intrude on our garden of dreams. One day we look at what is happening in our lives and we find that weeds have taken over. Either we get rid of those weeds or our dreams will get choked out. We might utter a prayer, and ask God to get rid of this enemy that has entered our garden. We come out the next day and things are only worse. What to do? We grab a hoe and start chopping the hard soil and removing the weeds. Man, this is hard work. We stop and wipe the perspiration from our brows, and take a long look ahead. We still have a long way to go until we reach the end of this row. We look to our left and there are six more rows just like this one. Is it really worth the effort? A look back reveals those beautiful plants now standing free with room to breathe and space to grow. So with new inspiration we keep on hoeing. It's a long row to hoe, but a harvest of joy awaits us if we but keep on chopping one weed at a time.
