Chapter 34
When we got home we
discovered that John and Sandy and some of their friends had cleaned our house
and had brought our refrigerator from the basement and had it running. We had
instructed them not to move the furniture because I wanted to paint all the
walls and refinish the floor. When we stored our furniture we had set up our
bedroom furniture so that it could be used. For two weeks we slept in the
recreation room and had full use of our kitchen.
Before starting to
redecorate the house we went to look for a new car. We bought a new 1968 Ford
four-door sedan.
I spent two weeks painting
all the walls, the woodwork and refinishing the floor. Then we restored all our
furniture and other things to their proper place. We were now at home and were
glad for a comfortable NEST.
Next was a trip in the new
car to see Arvilla's family in southern New York state and then on to Indiana
to visit Donna's family. On the way home we stopped at Brook Lane Psychiatric
Center where Betsy was working.
Early in June Ronald
graduated from LMHS and some time later he elected to do V.S. work in British
Honduras. He spent most of his twenty-six months of service in Orange Walk
Town.
I took a job with Kenneth
Buchen, a local builder, and worked for him until October, 1969.
Seven weeks after we came
home, John Michael (John and Sandy's) was born on June 19th, 1968.
A tragedy propelled us into
the next NEST.
