Chapter 33

THE NEW APARTMENT IN ORANGE WALK

When we got back to O. W., we lived, the next six weeks, in the guest room in the new center building and took our meals with Ben and Becky. They became very dear to us.

After New Year, Ben end Becky went to Costa Rica and we lived in their apartment and used their equipment. In April we packed our trunks and sent them to Salunga, PA.

.I helped Dr. Harvey E. Mast with the pastoral work at Orange Walk for four months, in lieu of Ben. I also finished most of the structural work on the new building. In February and March I replaced all the black plastic water pipes in the "medical building". After we had gotten all-day electricity and the water pressure system having a higher pressure than the former gravity flow, all the elbow fittings began to leak. At first I spent much time and effort to repair the leaks, but at last Paul Martin ordered me to replace the plastic pipes with galvanized iron pipes. It. was a frustrating job.

In April Judy Miller, Miriam Eberly (nurses), Bill Houser (V. S.), Ada and I drove west into Guatemala to see the Mayan Indian ruins at Tical. That was an amazing sight. One night we stayed at a hotel in Flores and another night camping out at Mountain Pine Ridge, sleeping in our hammocks. The day after our return, being a National Holiday, the entire staff took a holiday boat ride to Cay Corker.

And so we ended our twenty months overseas. We flew out of Belize at 1:00 PM, Tuesday April 30th, 1966 and landed at Philadelphia at 12:30 AM May 1st.
