My Moped and Me
|
The story of my life as recorded in "Of NESTS and GRAFFITI" ended, of course, with the demise of my dear Ada; and so it must remain.
However, there are some subsequent events that. I should record in this addendum to this second and revised edition of "Of NESTS and GRAFFITI."
During the last two years of her life, I often mentioned to Ada that I would enjoy having a moped; but since we always did go everywhere together, and wanted to continue that practice, I deferred buying one.
Then about six weeks before she died, she said to me, "Landis, why don't you go and get your moped? I won't he able to go away with you anymore, and I'll enjoy seeing you enjoy riding it." So I bought my first moped on May 22nd, 1979.

Sixteen months later, on September 16th, 1980, after logging 4,000 miles on that first. "bike", I traded it for a two-speed moped. Thus I no longer needed to "assist" on the hills around Akron. I have now ridden another 4,000 miles. Having that "bike" to ride that first summer after Ada's death was a good therapy for grief.
On August 12th, about five weeks after Ada died, I had another 'kidney stone*' attack. A stone was removed surgically and two days later, during the same hospitalization, I had prostate gland surgery. My recovery was normal and without problems. Before the end of that year, I had lost about thirty pounds of weight. That was good.
I thank God that I now, at this time, have excellent health.
I am continuing to live alone at 426 West View Drive. Whether there will be any other NESTS for me, I leave to the discretion of my LORD. I am happy. Adios.
