Esau Remembers Jake

At least it's home!

Esau was now an old man. He loved to sit in the shade of the big rock near his tent in Seir. After a rocky start, he had become quite wealthy and powerful. As father of the Edomite nation, he was well-respected by his people.
He chuckled as he thought of his brother Jake. The last time he saw him was the day they reconciled and Jacob promised to come and live with him. Well, like every other agreement they had, Jacob managed to trick him, and went to live in Canaan. "Oh well," he thought, "it doesn't matter now. He was some shyster. He should have been a Philadelphia lawyer. I sure was a fool to trust him. He tricked me out of my inheritance and my father Isaac's blessing."
"Boy, he sure got his comeuppance from Uncle Laban. I'll never forget the day one of my men came to me with the news that Uncle Laban welshed on his commitment to give his daughter Rachel to Jacob for seven years work. Instead he stuck him with Leah. So Jake worked another seven years to get Rachel. Served him right for the way he tricked me. I laughed so hard I thought my sides would split."
"Wouldn't you know it; he managed to get back at Uncle Laban. He worked out this scheme for getting most of Laban's good livestock. When they left to go home, Rachel stole the household gods. Laban was furious and searched all their possessions. Of course, Rachel was no slouch. She sat on them. When Uncle Laban asked her to move, she said, 'I can't. I'm having my period.' Boy, Uncle Laban didn't want anything to do with that. So he let them go. Jacob, Rachel, and Laban; what an outfit that was!"
"Man, I'm glad Jacob didn't come live with me. He probably would own everything I have by this time. If I ever run into him again, I'll say, 'Go sit on a household God, Jake.' Heh, heh, what a character; what a character!"
