Heralding the Prince of Peace

He came as the Prince of Peace.
   Wearing no crown, yet he was a prince.
His mission: to bring justice and peace;
   New hope to an oppressed people.
His joyous coming was heralded by a great light,
   Not in royal palace, but in shepherd fields.
E'en so, the brightness of that winter sky
   Threw the shadow of a cross over the Judean plains.

As God's ambassador to planet earth,
   He brought an entreatment of peace to all Creation.
Yet the Prince of Peace was slain
   In a great battle that rages on to this very hour.
But in an act of unparalleled love,
   The prince forgave those who sacrificed him.
And so, the divine treaty was ratified.
   God's peace is assured.
