Divine Spirit, as we enter a time of quietness to pray, give us an inner peace to listen to the voices from within us. These inner voices may be reflecting the voices from the world around us calling us to “bring forth the kingdom of mercy, bring forth the kingdom of peace.”
Almighty Spirit, it is difficult for us to become peaceful in today’s world. So many people are suffering around the world and even here in our own community. We are perplexed about the situation in the world today.
The current economic crisis causes us more unrest and threatens us with increased uncertainty for the future. We do not know who has the right answers. Lord, help those who are making the decisions that will affect so many. Give them your guidance.
Some of us face uncertainty in our jobs or live with the pain of dealing with strained relationships. Others may be unsure whether to seek a new position or begin a new educational path. We look to you for guidance to help us in our decision-making.
When we look beyond ourselves, we can see others facing even more difficult challenges. There are people living in Lancaster County who do not have enough resources to feed or care for their children properly. Help us to remember that you have called us to feed the hungry and clothe the naked.
In many places in the world, war and destruction have become the norm. How do people deal with the stress of living where daily gunfire and explosions have replaced the laughter of children playing or the sound of individuals going to and from work? Help us not to forget to help those who are in need of our caring, wherever und whoever they are.
O Lord, let us remember how you prayed - that we would know the things that make for peace. Let us pursue peace, peaceably.
Let us reach out to lift the burdens of others who need our help whether they live nearby or far away. Teach us how to live in a caring way which recognizes the humanity of all people on earth. Let us not forget that God loves all the people of the world, no exceptions.
May the peace of Christ be with you.
We pray all these things in your name,
Amen.
