I recently read an an essay by John Shelby Spong entitled "Beyond Theism but Not Beyond God," found in the book The Future of the Christian Tradition, Robert J. Miller, editor as published in 2007 by Polebridge Press, Santa Rosa, California. Dr. Spong's words inspired me to write the following hymn:
Abundantly Together
(sung to the tune ST COLUMBIA 87.87)
Jesus of Nazareth comes to build
a city on a hill;
A kingdom that's not made with hands,
but by the Father's will.
He comes to bring more life to all,
and gives it for today.
His love brings hope for everyone;
His message shows the way.
The love He gives us, we will share
with others on the way.
Abundant grace He offers all,
and bids us peace today.
He brings a vision of our God
to all with eyes to see.
For those who gladly hear his words,
shares life abundantly.
